John Wall’s return to adidas won’t be as fruitful as his previous stint. Details of his latest deal with the sneaker brand were made public. Wall’s deal won’t include a signature shoe, according to Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated.
Instead Wall will get to collaborate on footwear with fellow clients like Kanye West and Pharrell.
Wall will receive $4.825 million during the 2017-18 season as well as 2021-22. He will receive marginal increases in the seasons in between. The deal is also incentive-laced.
Wall will receive $150,000 for being named an All-Star reserve. That total doubles if he is named a starter. He also receives $250,000 for being the NBA’s leader in assists. He’ll make $25,000 for each playoff appearance. That doubles for making it to the Conference Semifinals, something Wall has done each of the three times his team has made the playoffs.
He receives $150,000 for making the Conference Finals and $250,000 for being in the NBA Finals, while getting double if he wins the NBA Finals.
He’ll receive $150,000 for averaging 20 points and 10 assists per season. That’s a goal that can be reached for Wall. He averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists last season. Despite missing 17 games, Wall is currently averaging 19.4 points and 9.3 assists — good enough for second in the NBA.
There is even a $1,000,000 bonus for him winning the slam dunk contest. He won the contest in 2014. He receives $250,000 for just participating. With that said, you can probably expect him to consider the 2019 contest, especially with it being in his home state of North Carolina.
The deal’s base money is close to what he was making in his first stint with adidas. He left the brand in 2015 after receiving an offer of 7.5 million per season in base with a signature shoe. He was upset that his offer was far less than the $15 million per season that James Harden received in his deal.
Wall spent the past two seasons in sneaker free agency. He opted to wear various brands before settling with mostly Nike shoes. However, in January, he announced he was re-signing with adidas, ending his sneaker purgatory.
