Washington Wizards guard Tomas Satoransky had a career night with career-highs of 25 points and five three-pointers to go along with six assists on Saturday. However, he prematurely exited the Wizards’ 101-90 win over the Chicago Bulls after he injured his head on a nasty fall orchestrated by Bulls forward Bobby Portis.
Satoransky was driving along the baseline for a dunk when Portis hit him while he was in mid-air. Satoransky fell awkwardly, hitting his head on the United Center floor. Satoransky received a cut on his head and left the game to enter the NBA’s concussion protocol.

Portis was assessed a flagrant-2 foul and was ejected from the game. Wizards’ head coach Scott Brooks called the sequence a “dangerous play.”

Portis has a history of questionable action. In November, he punched then-teammate Nikola Mirotic during practice. Mirotic suffered multiple facial fractures and a concussion. Mirotic has since been traded to New Orleans.
Satoransky was not the only Wizards point guard that left the game with an injury. Tim Frazier suffered a nasal fracture after Portis’ knee caught Frazier in the face.

The Wizards next game is not until Wednesday Feb. 14 and their last before they head into the All-Star break. The team was already without its star point guard John Wall, who is recovering from a knee procedure performed last month.
It will be very interesting to see how long Tomas Satoransky will have to be out – if he is at all. Wizards had interest in adding a veteran guard even before his hard fall today. Would have to think that interest would increase if he has to miss time.

The Wizards are rumored to have interest in free agent point guard Derrick Rose after he clears waivers. Rose was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Utah Jazz on Thursday as part of a three-team deal. Rose had his contract bought out by Utah allowing him to go to free agency.
