Matt Adams Launches Three-Run Homer in First Start with Nationals

When the Washington Nationals signed Matt Adams, the thought was he would be an upgrade at the plate to fill in at multiple positions even over the popular Adam Lind. On Saturday in his first start of the year, Adams wasted no time showing his value and impact to the team.

In his first at-bat with two men on, Adams launched a three-run home run off a two-seam fastball from Cincinnati Reds’ starter Luis Castillo. Washington took the early 3-0 lead in the first frame.

Adams got the start at first base ahead of Ryan Zimmerman, who got the day off to rest. If Adams can launch homers like that, it will bode well for him in pinch-hitting situations.

Washington scored in the first inning for the second straight game. Both rallies started with an Adam Eaton single. Anthony Rendon draw a walk and after a fielder’s choice off a Bryce Harper grounder, Adams stepped to the plate to cap the Nationals’ rally.
