The Washington Capitals were four minutes away from falling to a dreaded 2-0 series deficit when the heroics of forward T.J. Oshie saved their postseason lives.

The Capitals were trailing 4-3 when they received their sixth power play of the game. With less than 50 seconds remaining on the man-advantage, Nicklas Backstrom slipped the puck through traffic to a waiting Oshie who fired off a one-timer to tie the game at 4-4 with 3:35 remaining on regulation.

Neither team could get the go-ahead goal in the final three minutes, as the game heads into overtime.

The Capitals led the game 3-1 in the second period before the Blue Jackets rallied with a three-goal second period that resulted in Capitals head coach Barry Trotz pulling Philipp Grubauer from the game in favor of the more seasoned Braden Holtby to start the third period.

Holtby stopped all five shots he faced in the third period setting up Oshie’s game-tying goal.
