Otto Porter Is Out Indefinitely following Produce on his Leg

The Washington Wizards will be without forward Otto Porter Jr. for Friday night’s Game 6 and the remainder of their first-round series, if necessary, against the Toronto Raptors. Porter underwent a surgical procedure on his left leg. The procedure was to addressĀ build up of blood flow in the area of his contusion related to a bone bruise, according to Candace Buckner of the Washington Post.

The Wizards released an official statement following the procedure, stating Porter will be out indefinitely:

The procedure was required after clinical examination confirmed the diagnosis of compartment syndrome (a critical increase in pressure resulting from an injury) and was necessary to prevent permanent damage to the muscles in the leg. It was performed by Wizards Director of Medical Services and Orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih at MedStar Health at Lafyatte Centre.

Porter will be out indefinitely.

Porter has struggled much of late. In five games during the Wizards’ postseason series with the Raptors, the former Georgetown Hoyas product is averaging 10 points per game — tied for fifth on the Wizards — while shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 41.7 from three-point range. While his three-point shooting and overall field goal percentage has slightly dipped from his regular season, his amount of shot attempts fell from 18.1 per game to 8.2.

The return of John Wall could have had some effect on Porter’s shot attempts falling, but his own lack of aggression has played a factor. Friday’s development of news may lend a better explanation for the decline of aggression from Porter during the postseason.

Porter’s production on both ends of the floor has tampered off, but losing him shrinks the available amount of players head coach Scott Brooks may trust in his rotation. Kelly Oubre Jr. is expected to start in place of Porter, as the Wizards try to stave off elimination trailing the best-of-seven series 3-2.
