Capitals Michal Kempny Scores from Blue Line for First Goal of Game 1

For the 10th time in 13 games this postseason, the Washington Capitals scored the first goal. Defenseman Michal Kempny got the Capitals on the scoreboard in 7:28 into the first period when he fired off a shot in front of the blue line through a crowd and past Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Kempny, who the Capitals acquired in February in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks, had just three points in 22 games during the regular season and one assist in the postseason thus far. His first goal of the postseason came at a great time for Washington.

The Capitals were 30-4-3 in the regular season when they scored first. They are 6-3 so far in the postseason.
