WATCH: Michael A. Taylor Throws Out Runner at Home with 99 MPH Strike

Michael A. Taylor has struggled to say the least at the plate all season. Entering Tuesday’s game, he was batting a dismal .189/.254/.314 with 59 strikeouts. However, he can contribute in other ways, especially with his glove and arm. If the San Diego Padres were not believers before, they are now.

In the sixth with the game tied at 1-1, Franmil Reyes hit a single to center-field. Jose Pirela rounded third heading on his way to home. That’s when Taylor fielded the roller and launched a bullet of a throw to home plate to throw out Pirela at the plate, preserving the tie.

Initially, home plate umpire Eric Cooper ruled Pirela safe. However, a review revealed Pedro Severino tagged Pirela on the hip before his leg touched home plate.

The throw was fast and precise. According to Statcast, Taylor’s strike to the plate traveled at the speed of 98.8 miles per hour. Amazing considering he launched it from center-field.
