Alex Ovechkin waited 13 seasons to play in his first Stanley Cup Final. He had to wait longer to score his first Stanley Cup goal. The Washington Capitals captain scored 5:38 into the second period of Wednesday’s Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Washington was on the power play, and while Vegas did a good job keeping the puck away from Ovechkin and his office, good puck movement by the Capitals allowed the Golden Knights to lose sight of Ovechkin. He slipped past the defense into the perfect position for a nifty feed from Lars Eller, to snipe the puck past Marc-Andre Fleury.
The goal was Ovechkin’s 13th of the postseason and gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead, as they look to even the championship series at 1-1.
