Capitals Jump Out in Front with Three Goals in First Period

The Washington Capitals are just two wins away from the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. With Game 4 on their home ice, the Capitals came out firing looking to take control towards their third win of the series, as their offense explodes for three first-period goals.

Midway through the period, the Capitals got on the power play. Evgeny Kuznetsov led the rush getting a shot on goal. After Marc-Andre Fluery was able to get the pad on the puck, T.J. Oshie charged in to control the bouncing puck controlling the puck with his skates before tapping in the rebound to give Washington the 1-0 lead.

Kuznetsov was back at it again, winning the face-off in his offensive zone. Tom Wilson controlled the feed from Alex Ovechkin before pulling off a pretty give-and-go with Kuznetsov before Wilson buried the puck past Fleury with 3:34 remaining in the period.

The sequence highlighted the speed advantage the Capitals have had for much of the series.

Just before the period ended the Captials struck for a third time. Devante Smith-Pelly kept the puck in the offensive zone. Ovechkin swung the puck out to Matt Niskanen, who sent the puck in front of the net. Smith-Pelly controlled the puck with great footwork before tapping the puck past Fleury.

The Capitals are doing all they can to ensure that as they swarm Fleury and the Vegas Golden Knights early with three goals in the first period.
