The Washington Wizards’ off-season has been going swell to say the least. After a disappointing draft last week, the Wizards suffer another blemish to their summer as assistant coach Sidney Lowe is leaving to join the Dwane Casey’s coaching staff with the Detroit Pistons as Casey’s top assistant, according to Adrian Worjanowski of ESPN.

Lowe, a D.C.native, joined the Wizards two season ago with head coach Scott Brooks. Lowe was primarily responsible for working with guards. Under his tutelage Washington’s dynamic backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal improved their game, with career-years. For Beal, he has averaged 22 or more points per game in each season while having a true shooting percentage above his career average in each season with Lowe.

Lowe played at DeMatha in Hyattsville, Md. before playing in college at North Carolina State. After a brief NBA playing career, Lowe was the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves for two seasons (1992-94) and later of the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies, spending two full seasons there (2002-2004) before resigning. He also coached his alma mater N.C. State from 2006-2011 before rejoining the NBA coaching as an assistant.
