Playing in his second start since joining D.C. United, former Manchester United and Everton star Wayne Rooney scored his first MLS goal in D.C. United’s 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids.
Rooney broke ahead off a feed from Luciano Acosta and then beat another former Everton and Manchester United player, Tim Howard in the 33rd minute. The goal gave D.C. United a 1-0 lead.

Rooney jumped in the air with a quick fist pump motioned at the joyous Audi Field crowd, who serenaded the English striker with a standing ovation.
Rooney debuted with D.C. United on July 14 at the opening of their new home, Audi Field. Saturday was his fourth match in the MLS and his first as D.C. United’s captain.

All was not joyful for Rooney on Saturday night. He suffered a nasty cut on a challenge with Axel Sjoberg of the Colorado Rapids that left his face bloody.

Steven Goff of the Washington Post reports Rooney suffered a broken nose and received five stitches above his left eye.
