The Washington Mystics suffered a crushing defeat in Game 2 of their WNBA Semifinals series against the Atlanta Dream, and not just by the 78-75 score. Mystics star player Elena Delle Donne suffered a scary left knee injury that sent her crumbling to the floor in pain with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter with Washington leading 70-68.
The injury did not look good, as her knee buckled as she was driving to the basket. All attention shifted to the health of Delle Donne. While no official update will be given Tuesday night, Delle Donne was “hopeful” she can return to the lineup for Friday’s Game 3.
“I mean, I’m walking. The swelling isn’t terrible. I’ll go home tomorrow and see our doctors, and see what they say. But I’m hopeful to be back in the lineup Friday,” Delle Donne said per Mechelle Voepel of ESPNW.
The series is now tied 1-1 with Games 3 and 4 back in D.C. on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Mystics can only hope Delle Donne escapes Tuesday’s scary scene with no major injury.
