The Washington Capitals wasted no time turning the page from their 2017-18 Stanley Cup championship to the season on hand, as forward T.J. Oshie scored 24 seconds into the season opener against the Boston Bruins.
Oshie fired a one-timer off a feed from Nicklas Backstrom for the NHL’s first goal of the 2018-19 season.

If there was any doubt that Oshie’s quick goal was a fluke, Evgeny Kuznetsov tucked in another goal a little more than one minute later.

Kuznetsov’s goal came just seconds off the power play after a Sean Kurlay penalty. Off the face-off the puck bounced towards the net before Kuznetsov got a hold of the puck and deposited past Bruins goalie Tuuka Rask, giving Washington the early 2-0 advantage just 1:47 into the game.
Kuznetsov scores to give the Caps a 2-0 lead. In his last 42 games, including both the regular season and the playoffs, Kuznetsov has 60 points.

The hot start was a carryover from the celebration and raising Stanley Cup Champions banner, honoring the Cup-winning 2017-18 season. The concerns of a hangover was quickly put to rest as the Capitals are intent on repeating as champions.
