Quinton Dunbar, Chris Thompson, Paul Richardson Among Redskins Inactives vs. Cowboys

The Washington Redskins will be shorthanded when it takes the field Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Wide receiver Jamison Crowder was previously ruled out, but now he is being joined by three other big contributors to the Redskins. Running back Chris Thompson, wide receiver Paul Richardson, and cornerback Quinton Dunbar are among the Redskins’ inactives.

Thompson will miss his second straight game as he deals with knee and rib injuries that he suffered against the New Orleans Saints. Adrian Peterson, who is dealing with a shoulder and knee injury will play and get the bulk of carries. Samaje Perine will be active for the second straight game, while Kapri Bibbs will more than likely serve as the second running back.

Richardson had his knee reevaluated Thursday and it was ruled he re-aggravated a knee injury against Carolina last week. His absence along with Crowder means Maurice Harris will get a significant increase of snaps at wide receiver. He worked in the slot last week with Crowder’s absence but practiced in base packages this week with anticipation of Richardson not being available.

The biggest name on the inactive list is Dunbar. He popped up on the Redskins’ injury report on Friday with a shin injury. He was seen working out with the training staff earlier this afternoon, but as rookie cornerback Aldonis Alexander was seen warming up, it was increasingly clear Dunbar would not play against Dallas.

With Dunbar out, rookie Greg Stroman will be the leading candidate to man the outside in his place. For Alexander it will be the first game of the season the Virginia Tech product is activate. Dunbar has developed into the team’s most reliable cornerback and his absence even against Dallas’ seldom used receiver corps is a huge loss for the Redskins.

As for who was not on the inactive list, guard Shawn Lauvao will start at left guard. He had missed the previous three games with a calf injury. His return means Chase Roullier will move back to center after starting at left guard in Lauvao’s place. Tony Bergstrom will return to the bench after starting at center.
