Maryland’s offense has been up and down all season. It’s why the Terrapins entered Saturday’s game against No. 10 Ohio State with a 5-5 record. One thing the Terrapins’ offense prides itself on is speed at the skill positions. That speed was on full display early against the Buckeyes.
On the second play from scrimmage freshman running back Anthony McFarland broke an 81-yard run for a touchdown to give Maryland an early 7-0 lead after the ensuing extra point.

Going against the weak side of the formation, McFarland got a block on the edge and Ohio State safety Brendon White got caught taking a bad angle, as McFarland sprinted untouched down the sideline.
McFarland was at it again later in the first quarter, as he got a hand-off from the shotgun formation, ripped it off tackle beating shaking off a tackle before hitting the seamed untouched the rest of the way for a 75-yard touchdown.

The score gave Maryland an early 14-3 lead with both scores coming from McFarland. Two touches 156 yards and two touchdowns while a third run netted a loss of a yard.
When Maryland has been able to showcase their speed whether it’s McFarland or senior Ty Johnson, their offense hits its stride. Maryland has always had a great deal of speed at running back with Johnson, but now they have two home-run caliber runners.
As Ohio State tries not to overlook the Terrapins to avoid the late-season upset, Maryland is in search of a rare win over the Buckeyes to become bowl eligible. McFarland is doing his part to ensure that with his early two touchdowns.
