Head coach Jay Gruden gave an injury update on Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams. X-Rays were negative on his injured ribs. Williams will be sore, but his injury is not as severe as running back Chris Thompson Gruden said, per Grant Paulsen of 106.7 the Fan.
Williams is expected to return to practice Monday when the team resumes its activities in preparation for their Week 13 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 3.
He left AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in an ambulance. He injured his ribs during the Redskins’ 31-23 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. While he needed an injury timeout and medical attention, he only missed one snap and returned to the game.
He is also battling through a thumb injury that forced him to miss the previous three games. Thursday was his first game back as he played with a soft cast to help protect the surgically repaired thumb.
Washington has been decimated with injuries of late, especially on the offensive side. Both Week 1 starting guards Brandon Scherff and Shawn Lauvao are out for the season with season-ending surgeries — Scherff with a torn pectoral and Lauvao with a torn ACL. Additionally, swing tackle Geron Christian is out for the season with a torn MCL.
The Redskins have had to go through a makeshift lift much of the season. Prior to Williams’ return against Dallas, Ty Nsheke was starting at left tackle. Gruden also mentioned in Friday’s press conference that starting right tackle Morgan Moses was playing “on a bad Achilles” much of the game against the Cowboys, per Paulsen. He was already dealing with an MCL sprain.
Williams is the anchor of the offensive line. The good news that his injury is not severe is a breath of fresh air for Washington, as they seek to regain first-place of the NFC East. With the loss against the Cowboys, Washington fell to second place via tie-breaker.
