The Washington Redskins were facing a dire situation as quarterback Colt McCoy exited Monday’s clash against the Philadelphia Eagles in the second quarter with a lower leg injury. His absence caused Mark Sanchez, who was signed a exactly two weeks ago following the season-ending broken leg for Alex Smith.

With his checkered past performances, having not taking a regular season snap since 2016, and newness to the Redskins offensive system, the moment didn’t look promising for Washington. However, on Sanchez’s first snap he handed the football off to Adrian Peterson, who knifed through the Eagles’ defense for a 90-yard touchdown untouched.

The run was a career-long for Peterson and also gave him his 106th career rushing touchdown moving him into a tie with Hall of Famer Jim Brown for fifth-most all-time in NFL history. It also gave the Redskins more time to get Sanchez prepped as it appears he may be the Redskins quarterback for the foreseeable future while nursing a 10-7 lead.
