Unfortunately, the need of information comes with a price. As fans and media wondered about the rare silence of the condition of Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith reports have broke that Smith is dealing with complications from an infection following his Nov. 18 surgery for a broken fibula and tibia.

Smith suffered a compound fracture in a Week 11 game against the Houston Texans and required emergency surgery. With no official updates released by the organization or Smith’s representatives, insiders Eric Bickel and the Burgundy Blog did some digging and came away with what is described as “devastating” details on his condition. With the news coming to light, the Redskins released an official statement asking for privacy on the behalf of Smith and his family.

It’s understandable for the need of information into today’s information era. Concerned fans and insiders would like to know but at the same time, the subject of the news may want to deal with the matter in privacy as it appears from the Redskins’ statement.

For now it’s all speculation until an official word is made. Right now, the only official wording is asking for privacy as Smith deals with such a serious injury.
