Jordan Reed is in danger of missing the rest of the season with a toe muscle strain. Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Reed “could be out one-to-two weeks or the rest of the year,” per Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post.
Reed exited Sunday’s 40-16 blowout loss to the New York Giants in the first half without recording a catch and playing just seven snaps. He dropped the lone target he had in the game.
He leads the Redskins in every major receiving stat with 84 targets, 54 receptions, 558 yards, and two touchdowns.
Despite being viewed as one of the better tight ends in talent and ability, Reed has struggled to stay healthy. With him set to miss at least one game with his latest toe injury, he has not played in a full 16 games in a season since being drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by Washington.
Last season he missed 10 games with a lingering hamstring injury.
The Redskins enter Week 15’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars with faint playoff hopes with a record of 6-7. However, they’ve been decimated by injuries with 17 players currently on injured reserve, including Week 1 starting quarterback Alex Smith (fibula/tibia) and that does not include Colt McCoy is out for the foreseeable future with a broken fibula.
The Redskins will start Josh Johnson at quarterback against the Jaguars. It will be his first NFL start since 2013 after he was signed last week due to McCoy’s injury. Johnson will try to help snap a four-game losing streak without the Redskins’ best pass catcher in Reed.
