Redskins Waive Kapri Bibbs

The Redskins have waived running back Kapri Bibbs in a slew of roster moves. The Redskins also waived edge Marcus Smith and placed long snapper Nick Sundberg on injured reserve.

With Chris Thompson recovered from a rib injury that lingered much of the season, and Byron Marshall back from a knee injury, Bibbs was expendable. It’s unfortunate considering the promise Bibbs showed in his time with the Redskins.

Bibbs showcased his abilities as a pass catcher and pass protector in preseason. Unfortunately, he was cut as the team trimmed down to 53-man roster after the regular season. He was signed to the practice squad and later promoted to the active roster. However with Thompson suffering a ribs injury in Week 5, Bibbs played a prominent role.

In 10 games, he rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns. As well as 13 receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown receiving. His four total touchdowns are second on the team, only Adrian Peterson with eight has more.

Certainly, the decision of waiving Bibbs will draw the ire of some analysts and fans. He showed more potential than Samaje Perine, who has struggled with ball security and has found himself in the Jay Gruden’s dog house and was activated for just four games this season. Marshall may be ahead of Bibbs on the depth chart, but he has been far less productive as Bibbs over the last two seasons.

Redskins have already been criticized for allowing rookie wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. to be signed off the practice squad by the New Orleans Saints. Two promising young talents gone from the organization in a mere two days. So much for rebuilding, right?
