The Washington Redskins season got a bit more controversial as safety Montae Nicholson has been arrested and charged with assault and battery and drunk in public. NBC Washington was the first to report the arrest.

Nicholson is accused of assaulting a man in Loudoun County, Virginia early Tuesday morning. A woman, Sydney Maggiore, was also charged in the incident.

Nicholson and the woman “pulled up in a vehicle and honked the horn” at a man and woman, police said per NBC Washington.

“We are aware of the arrest of Montae Nicholson. We are gathering more information and will not comment until we have further details,” Redskins Vice President of Public Relations Tony Wyllie said in a statement, per Sherree Burruss of NBC Washington.

On the football field, Nicholson recently lost his starting safety spot after the Redskins acquired Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. Nicholson also battled a hip injury, and most recently a finger strain.

He has been relegated to special teams, not receiving a single snap on defense in each of the previous four games, according to Pro-Football Reference.
