The surprising release of DJ Swearinger by the Washington Redskins have caught just about everyone off guard. Swearinger was released Monday following his post-game comments criticizing defensive coordinator Greg Manusky’s play-calling in Saturday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Swearinger said he met with head coach Jay Gruden, who said Sunday he was “really disappointed” by Swearinger’s comments, and was informed he was being released. When he asked why, Gruden was mum Swearinger told 106.7 the Fan’s Grant Paulsen.

Nonetheless, why he was released was evident. Despite being arguably the Redskins’ best defensive player, Swearinger voiced frustration after losses and at times directed them towards the coaching staff.

Still, releasing top-level player such as Swearinger over comments hasn’t sat well with many fans. And it appears, hasn’t sat well with his now former teammates. Quinton Dunbar, Trent Williams, and Deshazor Everett have taken to social media to voice their support of Swearinger…

“Forever My Brother, S—t crazy,” Dunbar wrote on his IG post.

“Some s—t is impossible to understand, 4eva family,” Williams wrote tagging Swearinger in a deleted IG story post.

Even former Redskins teammate Bashaud Breeland chimed in, supporting Swearinger and making a plea for him to come join him in Green Bay.
