Virginia Tech guard Ty Outlaw is expected to play Friday against Duke in the East Regional Semifinals in Washington DC. Outlaw was charged with possession of marijuana, according to Virginia court records. Hokies head coach Buzz Williams said in a statement Outlaw is expected to play after he passed a drug test performed by an outside agency prior to the team leaving campus for DC Wednesday.
“We intend to play Ty [Outlaw] on Friday evening,” Williams said in the statement. “We will continue to let the process play out and that’s all I can say at this time. If information changes, we will respond appropriately according to our policies.”
Authorities performed a search warrant of Outlaw while Virginia Tech was in San Jose, California last week for the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Outlaw “fully cooperated” with authorities once the team returned to Blacksburg Monday, according to Williams in the statement.
