Victor Robles Hits Clutch Game-tying HR in 9th to Help Nationals Rally Past Phillies in Extras

On a night in which Bryce Harper homered off former teammate Stephen Strasburg, the Washington Nationals got a glimpse into their post-Harper future.

Trailing the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 in the ninth with two outs, Victor Robles hit a clutch solo home run off Edubray Ramos to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

Washington had trailed by the score of 6-1 in the fourth. However, they chipped away at the deficit. Howie Kendrick homered and Yan Gomes hit a two-run shot as part of a three-run seventh leading to Robles’ heroics.

Juan Soto, the 20-year old sensation of the Nationals, hammered a three-run homer in the 10th to push the Nationals ahead 9-6.h

Robles capped off the rally with an RBI-double later in the inning, as Washington topped the Phillies 10-6.

The loss was just the Phillies’ third of the season — Washington also beat them on Apr. 3.

Robles finished the night 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. It was fitting the Nationals’ top two prospects combined to knock in five runs against the guy, Harper, who they’ve collectively been tabbed to replace.
