Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster will not be suspended by following an investigation of domestic violence allegations by his ex-girlfriend. Instead, he will be fined two games checks and will be returned to the Redskins’ active roster from the Commissioner Exempt List.
“Following a thorough investigation, the evidence did not support a finding that Foster violated the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy in connection with the Tampa incident in November 2018,” the NFL said in a statement.
Foster’s two-game fine is a result of “an assessment of his adherence to obligations arising from previous violations of league policies.”
Foster’s ex-girlfriend accused him of hitting her during the November incident at a Tampa hotel while the linebacker was a part of the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers waived Foster following his arrest on Nov. 24, but the Redskins claimed him off waivers.
Foster was placed on the Commissioner Exempt List three days later while both the league and local authorities investigated the alleged incident. However, charges were dropped in January following a review of the criminal report affidavit detailing the incident, per court records obtained by NFL.com.
Despite charges being dropped, Foster remained on the Exempt List. The Redskins asked the league about clarity on Foster’s status ahead of the draft. Now, they have good news that Foster will be part of their roster heading into OTAs.
“I am grateful to the Washington Redskins and the NFL for giving me this second chance. I appreciate the support I have received from the league, my team, and my union to help me succeed. I want to thank Commissioner Goodell for the time that he has spent with me and for his understanding of me as a person. I accept the NFL’s decision and want to say that I am truly sorry for my past actions and the people who may have been hurt by them. Going forward, I will follow the plan outlined for me and work hard to earn back the trust of my teammates, the NFL, NFL fans, and the community. I know that my success is all up to me, and I am committed to not letting you down,” Foster said in a statement via Redskins.com.
