Jeff Green is moving on from the Washington Wizards, as the 6-foot-9 forward is signing with the Utah Jazz, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Green spent the past season with the Wizards after agreeing to a one-year deal last summer. The Hyattsville, MD native and alum of Northwestern High School and Georgetown was looking for a sweet homecoming.
Green averaged 12.3 points and 4.0 rebounds, shooting 47.5% from the field and 34.7% from three in 77 games and 44 starts in 2018-19.
However, the season in Washington turned soured as injuries to John Wall and Dwight Howard halted any chance of the Wizards gaining momentum to their season.
The Wizards finished 32-50 sparking a rebuilding. Washington drafted Rui Hachimura in the first-round of last month’s NBA Draft. They also acquired veteran Jonathon Simmons in a draft day trade with Philadelphia.
Green was yearning to play with a contender after reaching the NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018 alongside LeBron James. The Wizards failed to be that last season, and this upcoming season’s version is a skeleton roster.
In Utah, Green will join a solid core that is headed by guard Donovan Mitchell, two-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, and recently acquired point guard Mike Conley and former Wizard Bojan Bogdanovic. The Jazz has their sights set on contending for the Western Conference title.
Utah will be Green’s eighth team since he entered the NBA in 2007 as a member of the then-Seattle Supersonics.
Jeff Green joins Tomas Satoransky, Trevor Ariza, and Bobby Portis as prominent players from last season to sign with other teams this summer.
