The Washington Redskins have made multiple contract extension offers to right guard Brandon Scherff, however, the two sides remain “far apart,” according to Erin Hawksworth of 106.7 the Fan.

The Redskins have made Scherff a top priority, trying to lock him up to a long-term deal before he becomes a free agent next March.

The Redskins exercised the fifth-year option on Scherff’s rookie contract for this season which will pay him $12.525 million, according to Spotrac.

Washington drafted Scheff with the fifth-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Since, he has been a mainstay at right guard. He has received two Pro Bowl nods in 2016 and 2017.

Last season he suffered a season-ending torn pectoral in Week 9 against Atlanta.

Expected to bounce back for the 2019 season, signing Brandon Scherff is imperative, as he is already regarded as one of the best offensive guards in the league. Despite playing in eight games, he registered the best pass-blocking grade in pure pass sets among guards in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.
