WATCH: Anthony Rendon, Juan Soto Each Hit 30th HR in Back-to-Back At-Bats

Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto have been the catalyst of the Washington Nationals’ offensive surge this season. Rendon is having an MVP-caliber season while Soto is avoiding a sophomore slump by putting up incredible numbers in his second season.

It was only fitting that the two made history together by becoming the first set of teammates to each hit their 30th home run of a season in back-to-back at-bats. The unique sequence occurred in the first inning of Saturday’s 7-0 win over the Miami Marlins.

Rendon collected his 108th RBI on the year in the progress. Meanwhile Soto became the first NL player to have a 30-home run season before his 21st birthday since Frank Robinson did so in 1956.

Anthony Rendon, who is stating his case for a huge payday with a breakout season in a contract year, also hit a second home run in the eighth inning for home run No. 31.

Rendon and Soto are the first Nationals duo to hit 30 home runs in a season since Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman did it in 2009.

Washington has been the best team in MLB since May 24, improving their overall record to 76-58 and sitting firm as the top NL wild card.
