The Washington Redskins had to cut down their roster from 90 players to 53 before Saturday’s 4 p.m. deadline. First-round bust wide receiver Josh Doctson and the team’s leading rusher in 2017 Samaje Perine headline the list of those who the team officially cut:

Wide receivers was the steepest competition on the team. The Redskins opted to cut Cam Sims, Brain Quick, Darvin Kidsy, and Jehu Chesson along with Doctson. The team tried to trade Doctson but to no avail, opting to simply cut the former TCU product after three seasons.
Perine fell out of grace with head coach Jay Gruden in 2018 after fumbling issues and an ankle injury led him to yielding the starting running back job to veteran Adrian Peterson. Gruden endorse Perine ahead of training camp this year, but he failed to live up to the coach’s high praise. The team opted to go with the more versatile Byron Marshall as their fourth running back behind Peterson, Derrius Guice, and Chris Thompson.
In addition to the announced cuts, the Redskins have waived tight end Matt Flanagan with a designated injury. If he goes unclaimed, the Redskins can place him on injured reserve.
Trent Williams is still on the reserved/ did not report list and does not count towards the 53-man roster. Additionally, quarterback Alex Smith and Danny Johnson are on the physically unable to perform list and do not count towards the 53-man roster as well.
Injured running back Shaun Wilson and seventh-round pick linebacker Jordan Brailford both were among the initial 53-man roster, however, both are expected to be placed on injured reserve with hope maybe they can be healthy and be brought back to the active roster at some point this season.
Those impending moves will free up two roster spots, allowing the team to bring back someone cut today or look to the numerous players made available in final cuts around the league.
