The Washington Redskins will be challenged Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. That task will be a bit more daunting, as defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Caleb Brantley have been ruled out for Sunday’s game, as Jay Gruden confirmed earlier reports of.

Allen suffered what is believed to be a sprained MCL in Week 1’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. His leg seemed to get stuck in the turf as he was being double teamed, forcing his lower body into an awkward position.

Allen was seeking a second opinion this week. It appears to no avail pertaining to his chances to play this week.

Meanwhile, Brantley injured his ankle in the Eagles’ game as well. He was seen with a walking boot earlier this week.

With both out, the Redskins will have to dig deep into their depth for healthy defensive linemen. Washington signed TY McGill on Tuesday and will most likely have to play Treyvon Hester, who the team signed two weeks ago. Hester was inactive for Week 1.

The Redskins also have starters Daron Payne and Matt Ioannidis, as well as Tim Settle upfront defensively.

It may be bad timing with two key contributors out. The Cowboys sport one of the best offensive lines in the NFL to go along with arguably the best north-south running back in the league, Ezekiel Elliott.

Washington allowed 123 yards on the ground in Week 1, and their front seven rarely put pressure on Eagles QB Carson Wentz.

They cannot be the case against the Cowboys, who have just as potent offense with Dak Prescott. The Redskins will try to avoid a duplicate of Week 1 without Allen and Brantley.
