Washington Redskins quarterback Case Keenum did not practice Wednesday due to a foot injury. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report Keenum’s absence. Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post added that Keenum is wearing a walking boot on his injured foot, but is expected to play Sunday when the Redskins face the New York Giants.

Keenum received an X-Ray following Monday’s embarrassing loss to the Chicago Bears. Keenum was sacked four times while throwing three interceptions and losing two fumbles.

Many Redskins fans and pundits chanted for a quarterback change, begging for head coach Jay Gruden to bench Keenum for first-round pick Dwayne Haskins. Monday, Gruden stayed committed to Keenum, but Wednesday he seemed to change his tone.

Maybe Keenum’s injury was the underlining of Gruden’s about-face, or maybe not?

Nonetheless, the Redskins are left to Haskins working with the first team while Keenum is unable to practice. Colt McCoy continues to be hampered by his leg injury he suffered last December. McCoy missed all the preseason and has been inactive for each of the Redskins’ first three games.

McCoy was expected to return to practice this week in some capacity. However, the team would have to rush him back just get him taking reps with the first team. And rushing him back is just how his injured has lingered nearly 10 months.

Wednesday’s practice was just a walkthrough, coming off a Monday night game. As the week continues, all eyes will be if Keenum progresses.

Gruden and his staff presumably feel Keenum still gives the Redskins the best chance to win, if healthy. Now, they’ll hope he is healthy in time for Sunday’s game against the Giants.
