The Washington Mystics’ mantra all season was “Run it back” in reference to getting back to the WNBA Finals after falling short a year ago to Seattle. The Mystics rolled through the regular season finishing with the best record in the league. After a double bye into the WNBA Semifinals, Washington is headed back to the Finals, taking Game 4 against the Las Vegas Aces 94-90 effectively winning the best-of-five series 3-1.
Following Game 3 win by the Aces, a victorious Liz Cambage warned the Mystics to “get in the weight room.” Before Game 4 against the Las Vegas Aces, Mystics star and WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne told her teammates to let their game speak for itself.
Delle Donne heeded her own advice as she scored 25 points. Emma Meesseman scored 13 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter, including the dagger jumper that put away the Aces.
The two did what they did throughout the series. Las Vegas never quite had an answer to stop the lethal sidekick of Delle Donne. Meesseman drained three treys in the fourth quarter. Then up 89-88, Meesseman popped out of a screen and drained a jumper to put the dagger in the Aces and the series.
Las Vegas struggled deciding on their poison. When they fronted and doubled Delle Donne, Meesseman was open and she didn’t miss much, including shooting 9-of-14 from the field and all four three-pointers in Game 4.
Now, Washington will set their sights on the Connecticut Sun, who finished second in the league in the regular season. Game 1 is set for Sunday in DC at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
