Dwayne Haskins replaced Case Keenum at quarterback for the Washington Redskins with 6:35 remaining in the second quarter against the New York Giants.

Keenum and the Redskins offense sputtered through their first four drives. Keenum completed 6-of-11 passes for 37 yards. He also threw an opening-drive interception for the second straight game. As a result the Giants opened a 14-0 lead, scoring on their first two drives.

However, the Redskins defense came alive, as Quinton Dunbar intercepted Daniel Jones on back-to-back drives. And needing a spark to capitalize on Dunbar’s ball-hawking, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden opted to turn to the rookie Haskins.

Haskins, who was selected 15th overall in this year’s NFL Draft, nine spots behind Jones, had received some first team reps in practice this week. In large due to Keenum nursing a foot injury from Week 3.

Washington opened Haskins’ first NFL drive with a run inside by Adrian Peterson. Haskins then completed his first two passes for 15 yards to dug the Redskins out of a 2nd-and-15 following an illegal formation.

Then Haskins smartly scrambled 14 yards before being taken down at the Giants’ one-yard line.

The Redskins were unable to punch the football in the end zone, as Haskins missed on two throws into the end zone.

They settled for a 21-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins. That’s three points more than Keenum was able to do in the first four drives.
