Trea Turner Says Nationals Offense ‘Tried Way Too Hard’

The Washington Nationals managed just two hits in Thursday’s Game 1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. A large reason was the magnificent six-inning outing from Dodgers starter Walker Buehler, who allowed one hit and three walks on 100 pitches.

Following the 6-0 loss, Nationals shortstop Trea Turner summed up what was wrong for them.

The Nationals developed one of the better offenses in the National League, especially with two outs. However, they appeared to be pressing in both the NL Wild Card Game and Game 1 of the NLDS.

They managed a late surge to beat Milwaukee in the NL Wild Card, however, they never duplicated that surge against Buehler and the Dodgers bullpen.

Washington had countless chase swings that led to 13 strikeouts. They only threatened in fourth where they loaded the bases on three walks. However, with two outs, Asdrubal Cabrera swung on a 1-0 curveball perfectly placed by Buehler into a inning-ending ground out.

Turner’s assessment is implying the Nationals need to relax and let the pace of the game come to them. Much like they’ve done all year. Take what the pitcher is giving and pass the line for the next man up.
