Jay Gruden’s days appear to be numbered as the Redskins head coach. While there may be some joyous fans, some players may not feel the same over the impending firing of Gruden. That includes running back Chris Thompson, who broke down in tears speaking on the possibility of Gruden’s departure.
Thompson could not get much of his words to formulate as he was overcome by the emotion. One thing is for sure, Thompson has always been appreciative of Gruden’s support of him as a running back.
Thompson has battled through numerous injuries, however, has remained a focal point in Gruden’s offensive system when healthy. It’s no surprise Chris is feeling what many expect will be the near future.
Sunday’s game against the Patriots may have been Gruden’s last ditch effort to remain Redskins head coach. They started out fast with a 65-yard touchdown run by rookie wide receiver Steven Sims Jr., however, the Patriots scored 33 unanswered points to send the Redskins to their first 0-5 start since 2001.
Unsure of his job’s future, Gruden said no one has spoken to him from the organization, but he’ll find out “If the key works Monday.”
Maybe he hasn’t heard from anyone as the team’s brass, owner Dan Snyder and president Bruce Allen jetted off from FedEx Field immediately after the loss.
