As Jay Gruden’s job security remains in limbo, Redskins owner Dan Snyder and team president Bruce Allen left FedEx Field together immediately following the team’s 33-7 loss to the New England Patriots. Mitchell Tischler of NBC Sports Washington shared their exit.
It’s unclear how their premature exit pertains to Gruden being the Redskins head coach, but their exit was not of the norm.
Gruden has been on the hot seat from the start of the season. Now the team is 0-5, allowing 30 or more points in four of the five losses and losing by 10 or more four times.
Gruden sounded defeated following the loss.
Washington has lost 11 of their last 12 games. Gruden has guided the Redskins to one division title and one playoff game in five-plus seasons.
Reports have suggested that Snyder and Allen have been pushing the bandwagon of starting rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins. However, Gruden has maintained that Haskins is not ready, despite him relieving Case Keenum in Week 4’s loss to the New York Giants.
Gruden opted against starting the future of the franchise this week against the Patriots, opting for Colt McCoy, who had missed the first four games with a leg injury that has lingered since last season.
It was if Gruden wanted to go out with the quarterback he wanted trusted the most. Given the nature of Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen’s exit, Black Monday may come three months early in Washington.
