Jay Gruden is no longer the Redskins head coach. And while that is music to a lot of fans ears, the same fans recognize the culture of the team is not good even in the aftermath of Gruden’s dismissal. However, team president Bruce Allen does not agree.
Allen addressed media Monday afternoon in the wake of the firing of Gruden. When asked about the Redskins culture, Allen defended the team.
“You know the culture is actually damn good,” Allen emphasized per Mark Bullock of the Athletic.
JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington followed up with asking “How does that culture translate to winning football?
“Through winning football games,” Allen replied. “We have to win. We didn’t win any these football games.”
The first thought to come to mind is, well if a “damn good” culture translates through winning football, and the Redskins haven’t won much in recent years, then how do the Redskins have a damn good culture?
Certainly many others were perplexed by Allen, who brought us the Redskins were “winning off the field.”
Gruden being fired is a start. But, it’s hard for anyone to deny that the team’s issues weren’t solely of Gruden. It starts at the top and since Allen (along with owner Dan Snyder) are at the top, any true real chance of the team and its culture cannot be judged purely off a changing at coach.
