Elena Delle Donne has waited seven years to win her first WNBA championship. And the two-time WNBA MVP is savoring every minute of finally getting hers. That includes sleeping with the WNBA championship trophy.
For DC sports fans this is very similar to what Alex Ovechkin did when the Capitals and NHL star won his first Stanley Cup.
Delle Donne deserved to have the moment. She won her second league MVP this season after becoming the first player in league history to pull a 50/40/90 — shooting 50% from the field, 40% from three and 90% from the free-throw line.
She also battled through a broken nose, bruised knee, and three herniated disks in her back, to guide the Mystics to their first-ever WNBA championship.
