Bradley Beal has agreed to two-year maximum contract worth $72 million with the Washington Wizards. Beal’s agent Mark Bartelstein told both ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Candace Buckner of the Washington Post.
The two-year extension keeps Beal under contract with the Wizards through at least 2021-22 season. The second year of the deal is a player option for 2022-23. The total of the deal added to the two years he has left remaining on his current deal, guarantees him $130 million over the four years.
The Wizards have revamped their front office, and mission to rebuild into a contender with Beal as its centerpiece. Despite rumors of Beal being traded, new general manager Tommy Sheppard has been adamant the two-time All-Star is in their plans for the future.
They’ve added first-round pick Rui Hachimura to be a complementary piece to Beal. They are also treating the injured John Wall, whose four-year super-max extension kick starts this season, as a free agent for when he is healthy enough to return, presumably in 2020.
DC is where Bradley Beal wanted to be according to his agent. Regardless of the mix opinions of how the Wizards should have handled Beal’s impending free agency, they are sticking with him and he is sticking with them for the next four seasons.
