Montae Nicholson won’t play in Sunday’s season finale against the Dallas Cowboys, as the Washington Redskins are placing the safety on injured reserve to close the season.
Nicholson has been bothered by neck and ankle injuries. He was held out of practice Tuesday and Thursday.
The Redskins are signing safety Kenny Ladler. Ladler spent 2018 preseason with the Redskins before being cut and signed to the practice squad. He was waived by Washington in November of 2018. He spent 2019 preseason with the New York Giants before being waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement.
Nicholson was a fourth-round pick of the Redskins in the 2017 NFL Draft. Each of his NFL seasons has ended with him on injured reserve. In 2018 he was replaced in the starting lineup by Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
This season he was re-inserted into the starting lineup at free safety opposite of Landon Collins. Nicholson showed vast improvements, collecting career-highs of 62 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four passes defensed in 13 games.
