Terry McLaurin won’t get the opportunity to break the Washington Redskins’ rookie record for receiving yards. The wide receiver was ruled out for Sunday’s season finale against the Dallas Cowboys with a concussion. Safety Landon Collins has also been ruled out for Week 17 with a shoulder injury.
The Redskins also placed cornerback Fabian Moreau and safety Montae Nicholson on injured reserve. Cornerback Josh Norman is listed as questionable and safety Troy Apke is a game-time decision.
McLaurin has had a remarkable rookie season, hauling in 58 receptions for 919 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games. All of which lead the Redskins this season. He will finish seven yards shy of Gary Clark’s rookie record of 926 receiving yards set in 1985.
A third-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, McLaurin emerged right away in training camp as the Redskins’ top wide receiver despite being drafted for his strong special teams skills.
McLaurin is arguably the Redskins’ offensive MVP. He has the third-highest grade among rookies with Pro Football Focus and is the top graded rookie wide receiver.
Terry McLaurin was injured late in Week 16’s overtime loss against the New York Giants as his head banged against the FedEx Field turf along the sidelines. He began to experience concussion symptoms shortly after the game.
Collins’ first season with the Redskins after signing a six-year, $84 million deal ends. The safety leads the team with 117 tackles entering Week 17. He also added nine tackles for losses, four passes defensed, two fumbles forced and one sack.
