Even in the today’s NHL, Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson is the epitome of an enforcer. Opponents and their fans hate Wilson’s style of play, but he has been a treasure for the Capitals.
Playing against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Wilson used his style of play to his advantage delivering two devastating (and legal) hits.
The first was on Blue Jackets center Alexander Wennberg in the first period. Wilson flattened Wennberg in the middle of play.
In the second period, Wilson delivered possibly a more bone-crushing hit on Jakob Lilja near the boards.
The hit came moments after Lilja scored his first career NHL goal to give the Blue Jackets the 1-0 lead.
It appeared Lilja’s head hit against the board during his fall off Wilson’s hit.
Lilja was assisted off the ice, but returned at the start of the third period.
The Capitals lead the NHL with 57 points and 26 wins, however, they are winless against their Metro Division rivals the Blue Jackets. Wilson appears revved up for the rivalry game, as Columbus has been on the receiving end of two jarring hits.
