TJ Oshie was on the receiving end of a rabbit punch from Carolina Hurricanes Dougie Hamilton.
Late in the third period, Oshie checked Hamilton against the boards high. Hamilton took exception of the hit and punched Oshie in the back of the head, dropping the Washington Capitals’ forward face first.
Hamilton received a two-minute roughing penalty. Meanwhile Oshie received the worst of the scuffle.
The Capitals and Hurricanes have grown into one of the better rivals in the NHL. Tension was running high throughout the game. At one instant Capitals center Nic Dowd tossed Andrei Svechnikov’s stick into the crowd following a skirmish between the two.
