The Washington Capitals young goaltender Ilya Samsonov continues to impress in relief of Braden Holtby. The backup goalie stopped a career-high 38 shots, as the Capitals hung on to a 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on the road.
Samsonov made history in the process. He becomes the first goaltender in NHL history to win his first eight career road games in a single season. He is just the second ever to win his first eight road games throughout his career.
The Capitals’ first-round pick in 2015 has emerged at the top level. His success gives the Capitals a dominant duo of netminders along with Holtby.
Samsonov is 11-2-1 on the season with a 2.42 goals against average overall.
