The Washington Redskins officially announced Scott Turner as their offensive coordinator. Turner moved with his family to Northern Virginia at the age of 11. That is when his father, Norv Turner, was named the Redskins head coach in 1994.

Norv Turner served as the Redskins head coach until three games remaining in the 2000 season. Scott Turner was 16 and already attending Oakton High School in Vienna, Virginia.

There he played quarterback and earned a football scholarship to UNLV.

After earning a degree in psychology, Turner became a graduate assistant at Oregon State, starting his coaching career.

In 2006, Turner returned to Virginia to become the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at South County Secondary School in nearby Lorton, Virginia.

Fast forward to 2020 after stops at Pittsburgh, the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota vikings, Michigan and the Carolina Panthers. He now joins the organization his father once worked for.

Understandably, Turner is excited to back home. He posted an awesome pair of pics on Twitter, showing him with his father on the Redskins sidelines in one and him a bit older tossing a football on the Skins sidelines.

The caption read, “It feels good to be home. Time to get to work #HTTR.”

It’s a full circle in a way for the Redskins offensive coordinator. He is viewed as one of good young minds in the NFL. Now he gets to trek the path his father took in his own way.

Norv had a great coaching career, making a name for himself as the Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator before becoming Washington’s head coach. While his time in Washington didn’t end ideally, he continued to be a strong sought after offensive coordinator.

He even landed two additional head coaching jobs with the Oakland Raiders (2004-2005) and the San Diego Chargers (2007-2012).

Scott spent the past two seasons with the Carolina Panthers under Ron Rivera, first as a quarterbacks coach and then as the interim offensive coordinator after Rivera was fired in December.

Now it’s the younger Turner’s time to make a name for himself.
