The Washington Redskins are set to hire Ken Zampese as their next quarterbacks coach, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Zampese has an extensive coaching career, but is mostly known for be the Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterbacks coach from 2003-2015. During that span he helped the development of Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton and Baker Mayfield during his rookie season.

Zampese was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016. He was fired after two games in 2017 after the Bengals did not score a touchdown in the first two weeks.

Zampese was also a quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2018, but was not retained by head coach Freddie Kitchens following the firing of Hue Jackson.

Zampese’s reported hire comes on the same day the Redskins reportedly hired Scott Turner as the offensive coordinator.

Adding Pete Hoener to Coaching Staff

The Redskins also hired Pete Hoener as tight ends coach, according to Breer.

Hoener yet another former Carolina Panthers assistant who served under Ron Rivera.

Hoener was the Panthers tight ends coach for 10 seasons, nine of which were under Rivera. He also served as tight ends coach with the St. Louis Cardinals (1985-87), Arizona Cardinals (2001-03), and the San Francisco 49ers (2005-10).

He was offensive line coach for the Cardinals (2003) and Chicago Bears (2004).

Hoener will more than likely be working with a few set of faces at tight end for the Redskins. Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis had their seasons coach short due to concussions.

With Reed’s injury and concussion history and Davis aging, the Redskins may move on from both.
