Detroit Pistons forward Markieff Morris earned an early shower in Monday’s matinee against his former team, the Washington Wizards.
Morris clocked Wizards forward Davis Bertans in the face during a layup attempt by Bertans midway through the fourth quarter.
Officials immediately went to review to see if the foul was excessive. After review, Morris was accessed a flagrant-2 foul and immediate ejection.
This wasn’t the first time Morris and Bertans crossed paths. In Wizards and Pistons previous meeting back on Dec. 16, Morris earned a flagrant foul when he threw Bertans to the ground. The two then jarred and had to be held back. The jarring continued during the break in the action.
Maybe their history played a factor in the officials’ decision on Monday, escalating the foul to a flagrant-2?
Nonetheless, the beef will continue at least with chatter from media and fans. Fortunately for both parties, Monday was the final regular season meeting of the season between Washington and Detroit.
The Wizards defeated the Pistons 106-100 to win the season series 3-1. Certainly eyes will be on the behavior of both the next time they cross paths on a basketball court.
