Vernon Davis Announces Retirement in Commercial with Rob Gronkowski

Vernon Davis opted to announce his retirement in a rather unique way. Instead of a statement or press conference, the tight end announced his retirement in a commercial with Rob Gronkowski.

Gronkowski stated that he is bringing his retirement crew down to Miami for the Super Bowl. He introduced James Harrison and then Davis, who confirmed “That’s right, I’m retired.”

The commercial initially aired during FOX pre-game coverage of Super Bowl LIV.

The full commercial was a parody of “The Golden Girls” named “The Golden Gronks.”

ESPN’s John Keim confirmed Davis was indeed retiring.

The method of announcing his retirement should come as no surprise. Davis has always aspired to be an actor.

Davis, a Washington, DC native, starred at the University of Maryland before being a first-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2006.

He played 10 seasons for the 49ers before he was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2015. Davis was part of the Broncos’ Super 50 winning team that season.

He then signed a one-year deal with the Redskins in 2016 that turned into four seasons with his hometown team.

Davis was limited to four games in 2019 after suffering a concussion in Week 4 that ultimately landed him on season-ending injured reserve.

Vernon Davis finishes his career that spanned 14 seasons with 583 receptions for 7,562 yards and 63 touchdowns.
