A year ago, the Washington Redskins signed Ereck Flowers as a project. He struggled at offensive tackle and looked as if he was going to be officially stamped as a first-round bust. However, the Redskins gave him a final chance, moving him to left guard.
While the Redskins as a team struggled in 2019, Flowers found a position and situation he was most stabled in. Now, the Redskins want are hoping to keep Flowers beyond the one-year experiment.
According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington, the Redskins are in talks with Flowers on a new contract.
During a recent appearance on Redskins Nation, head coach Ron Rivera stated “We’re going to try to bring both guards back,” referring to Flowers and right guard Brandon Scherff.
Then head coach Jay Gruden shifted Flowers to left guard after the signing of Donald Penn in place of holdout Trent Williams. Flowers beat out rookie Wes Martin for the starting left guard spot and never looked back.
Last season, Flowers played 937 offensive snaps, allowing two sacks and drawing six accepted penalties, according to Pro Football Focus.
Left guard had long been a point of weakness for the Redskins. However, they may have stumbled upon a failed left tackle in securing a long-term solution.
