News broke Monday of Josh Norman signing a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills. Norman’s now-former Washington Redskins teammate, Quinton Dunbar, had an interesting reaction to the signing.
At first glance, it’s not wrong to assume the “everybody got a value” part of his statement along with the zipper emoji could have been in reference to his own contract dispute with the Redskins.
Dunbar reportedly has requested a trade or release after the Redskins seemingly balked at his request of a new contract. The cornerback has one year remaining on his three-year deal with Washington that will pay him a non-guaranteed $3.25 million in 2020.
However, when targeted by a Twitter user, Dunbar responded by saying his comment was geared at Norman’s critics.
Norman signed a five-year deal worth $75 million with the Redskins in 2016. However, he struggled the past two seasons and an ending was definite even before Washington made it official by releasing him last month.
Still it’s okay to assume there was some sarcasm in Dunbar’s tweets, referring back to his own situation.
With Norman gone to Buffalo, Dunbar is the unquestioned top cornerback at least ahead of any additions through free agency. He has shown promise on his latest contract. However, injuries have derailed him each of the past two seasons. And those injuries may derail his chances at getting a new deal without proving himself in 2020.
